Publication Authors:

Year Published:

Abstract:
Although there are lots of African or Nigerian cultural symbols used in advertisement across the continent and indeed in the world over, there, however, are still some major ones that are prominent and to which people readily relate. However, only little has been written about the significance of these indigenous African symbols. This study sought to establish the significance and application of African cultural symbols in advertising. Adopting a descriptive approach, a sample size of 137 respondents was taken randomly in Lagos state, Nigeria and sampled with a 100% return rate. The study revealed that kola-nuts, head crown, cowries, beads, calabash, horsewhips, cocoa pod and seeds and the talking drum are some of the most important African symbols used in advertisement with cowries and kola-nuts ranking as the most important. The study also shows that the application of indigenous African symbols and symbolism, with which people can readily relate, to product advertisement will help improve advertising of products and communication.

Abstract:
As a result of the advancement of digital technologies, intellectual discourse on the role of innovations in design and what value Computer Aided Design (CAD) brings into the equation has been on the increase. This research sought to appraise the effects of CAD on the creative behaviour of students offering design related courses in tertiary institutions with a focus on the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Nigeria. From the literatures reviewed, Creative Behaviours Model (CBM) proposed by Musta’amal, Norman, & Hodgson was adopted and served as a framework for capturing the creative behaviour of the target population. This model characterised creativity into seven sub categories namely: novelty, appropriateness, motivation, fluency, flexibility, sensitivity, and insightfulness. A survey method was employed for this study and data were collected using well-structured online questionnaires to elicit responses from both students and CAD instructors in concerned departments in FUTA. The outcome of the study reveals the areas of application of CAD software and the level of engagement of students in CAD related courses. It also shows the assessment of students’ performance in CAD related courses from the perspective of the students and their instructors.

Year Published:
 2017
Abstract:
Abstract- Humour has over time come to take its place in the Nigerian television advertising industry. Although a considerable volume of research has been conducted in the field of advertising humour in different parts of the world, however, little or no research on how humorous content can be effective across varying cultural contexts has been conducted. Adopting a slightly modified form of the Attention-Interest-Desire-Action model (AIDA) of measuring advertising effectiveness, a sample size of three hundred and ninety-eight (398) respondents was taken in Lagos, Nigeria with valid responses of three hundred and sixty-two (362) participants. Following two hypotheses testing, the study showed a significant relationship between humour and interest or desire-arousal and recall effectiveness of television advertisements respectively. The study revealed that Humorous TV adverts are perceived to be more effective over non- humorous TV adverts with respect to attention, interest/desire and action for recall-induction and effective product communication with exception to message-clarity. The study revealed that humour, with respect to Nigerian culture versus other cultures, has similar significant effect on the effectiveness of television advertisement

Abstract:
More than ever before, environmental preservation has been a critical issue for the survival of the world’s habitat. An attempt to explore global trends in environmental monitoring using numerous ways based on different techniques is an exercise in the right direction. This is expedient, given the recent overwhelming growing rate of environmental pollution of advertisement graphical bills worldwide. Posting of advertisement graphical bills constitutes one of the biggest threats to man and his environment as it now appears and as we live in an age of growing sensitivity to environmental cleanliness. Pollution of the Nigerian cities through advertisement bills assumes the general term of outdoor advertising ranging from hand-printed signs, posters, painted bulletins and spectaculars. However this paper discusses the trends of posting graphic advertisement bills in Nigerian cities. Its impact on aesthetics, as well as the pollution problems associated with the urban development. The study areas are Abuja, Akure, Ibadan and Lagos. In order to ensure that each unit of the population is represented, random sampling technique was used to get the necessary information from the samples. The findings emphasize the importance of strict control and market regulations in posting of advertisement bill in built environment and eradication of pollution of the environment

Year Published:
 2016
Abstract:
Colours are a part of human existence which is controlled by the visual impulses of the human brain they are also an integral part of any product advertisement. Colour affects every aspect of man’s lives. Graphically, colour affects the exchange of goods and services between the manufacturer of products and the final consumer. As a result, colour is essential to advertisement of products because it challenges the established order of products and draw fresh attention to existing products by making it stand out of others. The advertising world revolves around the principle of attraction: whatever a product may be, the advert must attract the consumer. One of the first things consumers will notice is the aesthetic package and colour of the advertisement. This research explores the role of colours in product advertisement. Certain factors like colour coding, colour symbolism in advertisement, history of colour and how the brain interprets colour are also explored in this research. The research concluded that the success of any product advertisement depends on the combination of colours used in projecting the product to the consumer
