Technical and manipulative skill development. Learning the use of various drawing media with emphasis on accurate observation, structure, volume, spatial projection and visual relationship. Exercise in the use of basic principles and techniques of drawing lines, basic shapes; At this stage, the flexibility of the student is put to test. Skill development in drawing with chiaroscuro. Skill development and accuracy in visual perception, judgment of distance, direction and proportion.

Course Synopsis

This course involves intensive exploration of shapes and forms. Study of principles of sculptural form and spatial organization, relief designs, mobiles and objects in the round, modeling and carving. Definition, types and methods of reproducing designs with cursory reference to various industrial arts disciplines: Graphics, Textiles, Ceramics and Jewellery etc. Study of basic repromethods, tools and materials.

Course Synopsis

This course is an introductory course that aims at helping the student develop basic skill in graphic communication. It involves studio work in two and three dimensional shapes and forms and also their vocabulary. Emphasis is placed on the conceptual and perceptual techniques in measured and freehand drawing. Some of the activities expected to be carried out by students include: Design and Construction of an A3 size port-folio which house the drawings other designs done by student, freehand sketches of buildings and their surrounding landscapes. Measured drawings in orthographic, oblique and isometric projections and also drawings done in varying media e.g.; ink, water colour, oil, poster, etc.

This course is designed primarily for all students admitted into the Federal University of Technology, Akure. It provides a comprehensive knowledge and insight into engineering drawing as a basic tool of engineering. Topics to be covered include: Instruments for engineering drawing and their uses. Drawing Paper Sizes; Margins; and Title Blocks. Lettering and types of line. Geometrical construction: bisection of lines and angles and their applications. Polygon, tangency, locus of simple mechanisms. Pictorial drawing; Isometric, oblique and perspectives. Orthographic projection. Dimensioning and development of simple shapes. Course Synopsis

This course involves intensive exploration of shapes and forms. The focus is on the examination of art in terms of perception of form, technical application, and identification of materials and production methods and basic introduction to graphic design. This study develops the Students’ understanding of three dimensional practice in many facets through conceptual and technical approaches that enables the students express themselves with expansive experience grounded in material tradition that promote creative study challenges in ceramics, textiles and graphics. The students are taught to express themselves working with glass, wood, paper and other found objects.

Course Synopsis

Graphic Communication & Computer Application II (IID106) is a continuation of Graphic Communication & Computer Application I (IDD 105) with emphasis on more exercises in freehand drawing including interior/section drawings would be conducted. Advance consideration of colour, line, value, texture and form, and elements of visual communication would also be discussed. Freehand method of lettering construction would be explored with teaching of special inscription on certificates, albums etc, through the application of calligraphic writing skill. Emphasis will be on the aesthetic and communicative aspects of lettering

Course Synopsis

This course is one of the preparatory courses on basic manufacturing processes, an important aspect of Mechanical Engineering. It is a compulsory course taken by all 100 level students in the university. The course is practically oriented and designed to introduce students to Mechanical Engineering workshop practices, manufacturing processes and properties of engineering materials which will help them as they progress in their courses. The course will help the students to be conversant with the workshop hazard and to observe all safety practices and codes. It cuts across all sections and departments of Mechanical Engineering workshop. Topics to be covered include introduction to basic manufacturing processes, organisation of workshop, workshop hazard and safety practices and codes, properties of engineering materials, bench-work and fitting, introduction to turning exercises (straight and step turning chamfering, screw cutting), milling and milling exercise, drilling techniques and exercise, sheet metal work, welding and soldering technique with exercises. Others are properties of wood, wood work and joinery exercises, workshop measurements, refrigeration and airconditioning: principles of operation, refrigerants and trouble shooting, Methods of leak detection, charging and discharging, safety precautions.
